Chapter Initiative Grants

The AFCEA Educational Foundation Chapter Initiatives Grant Program was inaugurated in FY97 with funding provided for five Chapter proposals. In FY08, seventeen proposals were received  for consideration including one from an international chapter. The proposals ranged from providing PCs with internet capability for student groups at a local military training school, enhancing local Robotics programs, providing laptops for local middle urban schools to providing opportunities for local 9th and 10th graders to attend a one-week Math and Science Summer Camp.  The Board of Directors approved $54,860 to fund these projects, with an additional $72,150 in matching funds provided by the Chapters for a total impact of $127,010 in Chapter Initiatives in 2008.

Brief descriptions of all Intiative proposals received the past four years are provided along with hot links to "Programs in Action".

The success of the Science Teaching Tools Awards program has encouraged the Foundation to solicit those educational projects which deserve support and which may be expanded to Association-wide programs. These Initiative Grants are intended to fund projects planned in addition to existing chapter educational or scholarship programs.

Factors used in judging the comparative worth of the proposals are:

  • Impact
  • Enduring quality
  • Target audience(s)
  • Chapter participation (financial and personnel)
  • Relationship to AFCEA's field of endeavor

The Board of Directors encourages Chapters to include a plan for matching the funds provided by the Foundation for these Initiatives projects.

Proposal submission deadline is December 15.  Please provide in any convenient format an outline of the project, including background information according to the comparative factors listed above. Be sure to indicate the dollar amount requested as well as Chapter funds contributed.
