FAIRFAX, VA—Recognizing the pressing need to share sensitive information of various classification levels among and across agencies, TechNet International 2006 -- AFCEA International’s 60th annual conference and exposition and one of the nation's largest defense-related IT events -- will include a focus on multi-level security (MLS). Taking place at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center June 19-20, the MLS Conference track includes two panel sessions, product demonstrations and a specialized exposition area.

MLS is a complex process that allows computers to carry information with different levels of classification and permits access to the information to those users who carry the appropriate security clearances and needs to know, while at the same time preventing leaks to unauthorized users. The alternative approach traditionally used by the government to address the information exchange issue has resulted in separate computing infrastructures within an agency for each level of security authorization.

New mandates for information sharing in response to national security have proven this approach ineffective. With emerging MLS solutions, data sharing across different security domains or classification levels does not require separate networks with separate servers.

The Honorable Dale Meyerrose, Associate Director of National Intelligence and Chief Information Officer, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, kicks off the MLS track at TechNet by moderating the MLS intelligence strategies panel. Chief Information Officers from various intelligence agencies will discuss their plans and approach to implementing MLS cross-domain solutions. Later that day, attendees will have the opportunity to see working examples of MLS systems in both the Windows and UNIX/LINUX environments.

In the day two panel session on IS requirements, Ed Hammersla, Chief Operating Officer, Trusted Computing Solutions, will lead a panel focused on the MLS direction within the information systems community. Leaders from government and industry will discuss the practical challenges for MLS implementation and acceleration of the certification and accreditation process.  In addition, TechNet exhibitors will display their MLS solutions during the two-day exposition.

Registration for TechNet International is free and the conference and exposition are open to the public. For details and free on-line registration go to www.technet2006.org.
